Gary Hoover, a longtime Austin entrepreneur who founded the Bookstop chain and business information company Hoover’s Inc., has been named the first entrepreneur-in-residence at University of Texas’ McCombs School of Business.
Hoover, who has guest-lectured at UT for years, will continue in that role and work one-on-one with students from all study areas to foster entrepreneurism and help them turn ideas into enterprises.
“Even if you plan to spend your career in the corporate world or another industry, you can really benefit from understanding how entrepreneurs think and compete,” said Hoover, 58. “I can make the case that we’re really all businesspeople in a way, and there is so much to learn from studying what drives entrepreneurs to succeed.”
